Buenos Aires, Jan 6, (dpa/GNA) – Venezuela’s prosecutor general, on Tuesday accused the United States of terrorism, following the arrest by US forces of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
“The military operation without a declaration of war or a UN Security Council resolution, represents an illegal act of armed aggression of a terrorist nature,” Tarek William Saab said. The arrests were tantamount to abduction, he added.
An elite US unit seized Maduro in Caracas over the weekend and took him to the US, where he was brought before a New York court on Monday, on charges of running a cocaine-trafficking conspiracy.
Saab called on the New York judge to recuse himself as he was not competent to try a head of state. He also called for Maduro’s immediate release.
