Venezuela reports 24 soldiers killed in US attack

Buenos Aires, Jan 6, (dpa/GNA) – At least 24 Venezuelan soldiers were killed in the US attack on Caracas, to extract president Nicolás Maduro.

“In memory: 24 stars were torn from our Bolivarian firmament by the cowardly hand of the empire,” read the statement from the Venezuelan armed forces posted on Instagram on Tuesday, with photos of the deceased men and women published alongside.

In memory of the South American freedom fighter Simón Bolívar, the Venezuelan military refers to itself as the Bolivarian Army.

Earlier, the government in Havana announced that 32 members of the Cuban security forces were killed during the US military’s commando operation over the weekend.

According to experts, soldiers and intelligence agents from allied Cuba have been operating in Venezuela for years. They were responsible for Maduro’s personal security as bodyguards, or maintained discipline within the ranks of the armed forces.
