Washington/Gaza, Jan 21, (dpa/GNA) – The US government has accused six Palestinian aid organizations in the Gaza Strip, of having secret ties to the Palestinian militant Hamas movement.
The organizations affected are Waed Society Gaza, Al-Nur Society Gaza, Qawafil Society Gaza, Al-Falah Society Gaza, Merciful Hands Gaza and Al-Salameh Society Gaza, according to the Office of Foreign Assets Control at the Treasury Department in Washington.
The organizations are accused of pretending to provide medical care to Palestinian civilians, while in fact supporting the military wing of Hamas.
“The fraudulent nature of these organizations, which use deception to raise funds from international donors, demonstrates Hamas’s perfidy and deprives innocent civilians of the medical care they need,” the US Treasury Department’s statement said.
The Popular Conference of Palestinians Abroad is also under US scrutiny.
It is officially presented as representing all Palestinians, but the US alleges that it is “clandestinely controlled by Hamas” and has supported several aid flotillas to Gaza.
The US authorities are planning to freeze the assets of several individuals. The allegations are based on documents seized from Hamas offices in the Gaza Strip after the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The organizations themselves have not yet commented on the allegations, which cannot be independently verified.
