Sogakope (VR), Jan 14, GNA – Stakeholders in the South Tongu Constituency have initiated measures to address recent interruptions in water supply to several communities within the district.
Mr Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, Member of Parliament for the area, engaged the Sogakope District Manager of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Mr Richard Ekow, and his technical team to discuss the situation and explore possible solutions.
Officials of GWL explained that the interruptions were largely due to low voltage supply from GRIDCo, which had affected the capacity of the company’s pumps to facilitate water treatment and distribution.
The matter, they said, had already been communicated to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) office in Sogakope for the necessary technical attention.
Mr Lukutor noted that uninterrupted water supply was critical to the wellbeing of households and to the district’s overall development agenda.
He expressed optimism that coordinated action among the relevant institutions would help restore normal flow.
The MP placed calls to officials responsible for the GRIDCo power line serving Agordomi and surrounding communities to request expedited technical support to stabilise voltage levels for effective water production.
He also disclosed that he had reached out to the national management of GWL to encourage timely intervention, particularly because South Tongu hosts a water treatment plant that supplies parts of the district.
Mr Lukutor urged the GWL District Manager to follow up on the proposal to extend supply from the Ada District to Kpotame and Vume and to explore the possibility of augmenting production from the Kesseve Water Treatment Plant to improve resilience.
Communities such as Dorkploame, Lakpo, Atsieve, Yorkuitikpo, Sogakope and surrounding areas have recently experienced reduced supply.
The MP said the issue also affected residents across the constituency and should be treated with urgency.
He reiterated his commitment to working collaboratively with the relevant agencies to achieve sustainable and lasting solutions to the constituency’s water challenges.
