Rabat, Jan. 27, GNA – The Republic of Senegal has reaffirmed its firm and unwavering support for the Kingdom of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire national territory, including the Sahara region.
This position was contained in a Joint Communiqué issued in Rabat on Monday at the close of the Morocco–Senegal High Joint Partnership Commission. The session was co‑chaired by Morocco’s Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, and Senegal’s Prime Minister, Mr. Ousmane Sonko.
The communiqué said Senegal renewed its full backing for the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco, describing it as the only credible, serious and realistic basis for resolving the regional dispute within the exclusive framework of the United Nations.
It added that Senegal welcomed the historic adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 on October 31, 2025, which recognizes the Moroccan autonomy plan—within the framework of the Kingdom’s sovereignty—as the sole serious, credible and lasting foundation for achieving a political solution to the Sahara issue.
