Atebubu (Bono East), Jan 28, GNA – The Atebubu College of Education branch of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the party to cherish and protect the prevailing unity and peace, as it prepares for the Saturday January 31 Presidential Primary.
The delegates of the largest opposition NPP go to polls on Saturday, to elect the party’s flagbearer for the Election 2028.
They will decide on the former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Bryan Acheampong, the MP for Abetifi and former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the MP for Bosomtwe and former Education Minister, Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former NPP General Secretary and Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central.
Mr Francis Boakye Acheampong, the President of the TESCON branch made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Atebubu in the Bono East Region, on the sidelines of a general meeting of the Confederacy.
He urged the delegates as well as the presidential hopefuls and their supporters to remain decorous and tolerant as the presidential primary drew nearer, saying that the NPP had always stood for democracy, rule of law and unity.
Mr Acheampong urged the delegates and the party supporters to avoid hate speech and bad utterances that could inflame passion and undermine the peaceful conduct of the elections.
He said that: “Differences in opinions are natural in a democratic contest, but violence, intimidation and division must never be part of our political culture”.
Mr Acheampong encouraged the presidential hopefuls and their supporters to graciously accept the outcome of the elections for the sake of party unity and the Election 2028.
He said that: “Our strength lies not in our individual ambition, but in our collective resolve to work together towards an overwhelming electoral victory in the 2028 General Elections”.
Mr Acheampong commended the National Executive Council of the NPP for constituting a vibrant elections committee and commended the committee for the hard and dedicated work in putting down the required structures for free, fair and credible elections.
He said in fact, the dedication and commitment to building strong internal democracy would strengthen the party and inspire confidence among its rank and file.
