Buenos Aires, Jan 5, (dpa/GNA) – The son of Venezuela’s authoritarian president Nicolás Maduro, described his father’s capture by US special forces in Caracas as a kidnapping, while addressing the South American country’s parliament on Monday.
“If we normalize the kidnapping of heads of state, no country will be safe any more. Today it is Venezuela, tomorrow it could be any other country that does not submit,” lawmaker Nicolás Maduro Guerra said at a constituent meeting of the Venezuelan National Assembly.
“Without international law, the law of the strongest will once again prevail in the world,” he added on the day his parents pleaded not guilty in a New York federal court to narco-terrorism charges.
Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were seized by the US military in the Venezuelan capital, in the early hours of Saturday and taken out of the country.
According to US authorities, Maduro used his office, illegally obtained through election fraud, to enable thousands of tons of cocaine to be transported to the US.
