Accra, Jan. 27, GNA – Mr Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the Minister of the Interior, on Monday visited the Fire Academy and Training School at Jamestown, Accra, to observe the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) recruitment exercise.

The Minister commended heads of the Service for ensuring a smooth and orderly process.

“You can see that there is no struggle or anxiety here, everybody is seated quietly waiting for his or her turn. As compared to the previous years when they have to go and stand in the scorching sun, with people screaming at them,” he said.

The GNFS, during the Minister’s visit, was screening successful applicants who had applied to join the Service, which focused on their body selection, vitals, and records validation.

Mr Muntaka said recruitment into the Service was free and merit-based, urging applicants not to pay money to anyone for a slot.

“The process is increasingly digital to reduce human interference. As a Ministry, we will ensure that the process remains transparent and open for all,” he said.

“I will continue to urge you all to be vigilant and go through the process, so that you do not fall victim to online recruitment scams.”

Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) Gilbert Klutse, Commandant of the Academy, said the exercise started from Thursday, January 22 to Saturday, January 24. However, Monday’s activity was a mop up for applicants who could not receive their text messages earlier.

“They missed their schedules. So today, management has made a provision for them, to come in here and go through the process,” he added.

DCFO Klutse said the process had been transparent and smooth, with no problem encountered.

“The process is done orderly and it does not take more than 30 minutes for applicants to go through it,” he added.
