Tarkwa (W/R), Jan. 07, GNA – The family of the 19-year-old young man, Osman Mambo, who died after a disturbance broke out during a police raid in Aboso, located in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality on December 31, 2025, have paid a visit to the Western Central Regional Police Command.
The deceased’s relatives who hail from Abotoase in the Oti Region, paid the visit on Friday January 2, 2026.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Tarkwa, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Beatrice Turkson, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Western Central Region, said when the late Mambo’s family arrived, officers at the command consoled them.
She said a team later led them to the Apinto Government hospital where the body had been deposited for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
ASP Turkson added that the two persons who sustained injuries had already been treated and discharged.
She revealed that many of the suspects picked up during the swoop took advantage of the situation to escape.
However, 25 suspects who were still in police custody were released on bail when the crowd threatened to attack the Regional Police Command.
“It was at that point that the police pulled back to ensure safety and maintain order.”
Meanwhile investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the attack and circumstances that led to the death of an individual.
ASP Turkson said the Western Central Regional Police Command would continue to intensify its operations to make every community safe for the citizens.
She further appealed to the public to collaborate with the police to curb crime in the region, and share relevant information, as their success depended on public input.
ASP Turkson cautioned the public against interfering with police operations and urged them to report any criminal activities to the nearest police station.
The fact of the issue was that on December 31,2025, the Police conducted a swoop at Aboso in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality .
The operation formed part of the Commands security preparation ahead of the December 31st crossover night, aimed at clearing the town of drug peddlers, pushers, and traffickers.
During the exercise, about seventy suspected drug dealers, pushers, and users were arrested.
The arrest resulted in a confusion, and two of the youth sustained gunshot wounds and another young man was found unconscious with blood oozing from the back of his head.
He was immediately conveyed by the police to the Apinto Government hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
