Takoradi, Jan. 01, GNA – DCOP Frank Abrokwah, the Western Regional Police Commander last night joined parishioners of the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Cathedral in Takoradi, to celebrate the vigil mass that ushered in 2026.
The visit was to showcase police visibility in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis during the yuletide.
In a brief message, DCOP Abrokwah extended his festive greetings to the parishioners and priests.
He however urged them to remain vigilant and be security conscious as well as take their personal security seriously, noting that the police could not be at everywhere at every time.
The Regional Commander indicated that the focus of the current Inspector General of Police (IGP), was to fight against violent crimes, to ensure peace and tranquillity in the society.
He said the police was committed to ensuring peace, however, this was a shared responsibility and urged the parishioners to report any suspicious behaviour fromnpeople, to the police for the necessary action to be taken.
He said people should be bold to question the behaviour of suspected individuals and make use of the slogan “See something, say something,” to help fight crime in the society.
He said the police would always be their friends and they should help them in their work by giving them relevant information to ensure the firm execution of their mandate.
In a sermon, Reverend Fr. Albert Jonathan Sobo-Blay told the parishioners to begin 2026 with their focus on Jesus Christ who was born to save mankind.
He pointed out that the celebration of Christmas and new year should not be about buying new clothes, and watching the performance of masquerades, but that it should be a time for people to reflect on their lives and make amends.
He used the occasion to launch the 2026 Pastoral theme for the Takoradi Deanery, “ Bring them here and they will be satisfied,” from (Matthew 14:18).
The cathedral was filled to capacity with many of the parishioners clad in white clothes to signify their joy and victory of making it into the new year
