Accra , Dec 24, GNA-The Centre for Ageing Studies of the University of Ghana Legon has presented 90 Wheelchairs to representatives of organizations of Persons With Disability.
It was done in collaboration with EPIROC Limited, a distributor of mining equipment to responsible miners in the country, FRIMPS Oil Company in Accra and The Church of Pentecost of Sakomono area, who jointly contributed GHS 180,000 towards the purchase of 90 Wheelchairs.
Representatives from the Ho Geriatric Centre from the Volta Region, The Korle-Bu Geriatric Centre, Accra, the University of Ghana PENSIONERS Association Legon (UGPA), the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO) and The Church of Pentecost received the items.
The rest are The Amrahia Trent Seniors Haven, The Tobinco Company, The Graceful Greyers, The Government of Ghana Pensioners and The Dodowa Zones 1,2,3.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof Gordon Awandare in a speech expressed appreciation to the Centre and donors for the good work done and added that the Centre was raising high the flag of the University of Ghana by impacting lives.
The Head for the Centre, Reverend Professor Joseph Osafo Adu, reminded the gathering that next year, they would celebrate their 10th Anniversary at Mamfe on the Mountains with an organized float.
He promised to push for the Bill for Older Persons to be passed at the Parliament.
In attendance at the presentation were the former Heads of the Centre Prof. Charles Mate-Kole and Prof. Mavis Dako-Gyeke.
