Media practitioners mourn demise of renowned journalist in Bono

Sunyani (Bono), Dec. 24, GNA – The demise of a renowned journalist in the Bono Region has thrown the media fraternity into a state of grief and disbelief, with practitioners describing his death as painful, shocking, and unforgettable.  

The deceased, Francis Owusu Ansah, popularly known as “Agama,” Bono Regional Correspondent of the Chronicle Newspaper, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2025, at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital after a short illness.  

A family source confirmed the news to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, saying: “The family is extremely sorrowful and in a painful moment.”  

In separate interviews, journalists and media practitioners described the late Agama as “friendly, gentle, easy-going, and hardworking.”  

Mr Seth Opoku Agyemang, News Editor of Sunyani-based Space FM, said: “I am very sorrowful that my boss is gone so soon. In fact, he was a great mentor.”  

Describing him as sociable, Mr Michael Boateng, News Editor of Service Radio in Sunyani, noted he would forever remember Agama for his passion for journalism and excellent human relations.  

“You will never see Agama angry. He was always smiling and very respectful,” Nana Osei Kyeretwie, former Bono Regional Manager of GNA, indicated.  

Madam Freda Abban, Ahafo Regional Correspondent of Ghana Television (GTV), remarked: “Agama was a gentle guy and death is something else.”  

Meanwhile, many journalists and media practitioners have taken to various social media platforms to express their sympathies.  

In his journalism career, the late Agama served as News Editor and General Manager (GM) at Berekum-based Shalom FM, GM and Editor at Storm FM in Sunyani, and Marketing and Brands Manager for Might FM at Savelugu in the Northern Region.  

Before joining Storm FM in 2012, he worked at Space FM in Sunyani as News Editor for nine years and, in 2003, hosted the breakfast show at Enchi-based Max FM.  

He was also the former GM of Union FM in Sunyani and, before his demise, was the GM of Virgin Kurt Hotel in Sunyani.
