Accra, Dec. 16, GNA – Commissioner of Police (COP) Ms Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director‑General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has opened a three‑day INTERPOL Regional Training for Data Protection Officers in Accra.

The training, set for December 16–18, 2025, aims to equip law enforcement officers from West Africa and Mauritania to improve the secure management of criminal data, enhance intelligence sharing and uphold the trust essential to international cooperation.

COP Donkor called for responsible data management and improved regional collaboration in law enforcement.

She said information was the lifeline of international police cooperation but must be obtained, shared and used lawfully to safeguard the integrity of policing and the safety of citizens.

“The right information in the wrong hands can cause harm, which is why data protection remains central to effective and ethical policing,” she said.

COP Donkor said that data protection was not only about privacy but also about building trust, saving lives and sustaining global policing partnerships.
