Bamiankor (W/R), Dec. 03, GNA-The Gwiraman Traditional Council has climaxed the 2025 annual Egila Yam Festival with a call on traditional rulers and indigenes of the area to unite and forge ahead in development.
The celebration, themed, “United in Purpose, Advance in Progress: The Gwira Way Forward”, brought together traditional rulers, politicians, representatives from the Council of State, corporate bodies, MMDAs, security agencies and the media.
The festival marks the beginning of a new agricultural season and reminds every son and daughter of Gwira that survival and progress come from unity, hard work, and respect for tradition.
Speaking at a durbar at Bamiankor in the Nzema-East Municipality, Mr Joseph Nelson, Western Regional Minister reminded traditional rulers that the Region was blessed with abundant natural resources and vibrant human capital, yet those blessings could only translate into real development when unity prevailed among the people.
He commended traditional rulers for their continued partnership with the government in their critical role in ensuring peace, stability, and development.
Mr Nelson said traditional authority remained one of the strongest development anchors in Ghana, adding that ” when Nananom champion progress, development follows naturally”.
He paid glowing tribute to Awulae Angama-Tu Agyan for his exemplary leadership, wisdom, and dedication, adding that the Gwira Traditional Area had witnessed progress, stability, and renewed focus on community development.
Awulae Angama-Tu Agyan Paramount chief of the Gwira Traditional Council for his part,
said his 30 years on the throne had witnessed an unprecedented development in the area especially in the area of electrification, and education including, the building of an E-Block classroom for the Gwiraman senior high school.
The Paramount Chief, however, raised concerns about poor road infrastructure, inadequate healthcare facilities, and the need for a separate district for Gwira.
He appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to improve upon the road net and provide a hospital for the area.
He announced plans to build a 500-bed capacity dormitory for the Gwiraman senior high school to address the declining student population.
Mr Kofi Arko-Nokoe, Member of Parliament (MP) for Evalue Adjomoro-Gwira urged Gwiraman to allow the unity that characterized the Egila Yam Festival, propelling development of the area.
He assured the people of government’s commitment to development, citing ongoing road projects and support for education, adding that efforts were being made to assist student teachers from Gwira in training colleges to come and render services upon completion of their training.
Mr Herbert Kuah-Dickson, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nzema-East, said the Assembly had completed some of the uncompleted projects it inherited from the previous government.
He mentioned the completion of 12 boreholes within the last nine months, CHPS compound, classroom blocks, and market centres.
Mr Kuah-Dickson announced that the government would build a cocoa depot at Gwira-Anyinase to boost cocoa production.
Mr Maxwell Boakye, Western Regional Member of the Council of State lauded efforts of traditional rulers in the Region’s development drive and promised to put the development needs of the Gwira area before the President.
Mr Boakye appealed to Gwiraman to unite and give peace a chance, adding that without peace there cannot be any meaningful development.
