London, Dec 15, (PA Media/dpa/GNA) â Two gunmen who launched a mass shooting attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney were father and son, New South Wales Police commissioner Mal Lanyon told a press conference in Sydney on Monday morning.
The older gunman, who died after being shot by police, was licensed for six firearms and six were recovered from the scene in Bondi Beach, he said.
Two âactive devicesâ of âfairly basicâ construction were found at Bondi Beach and were removed and made safe, Lanyon said.
Lanyon told reporters: âWe will continue to investigate this matter thoroughly.
âItâs important for the community to have the reassurance that New South Wales Police, working with our Commonwealth partners, will not stop until we understand the reasons behind this senseless incident, and take any available action that we need to do.â
He continued: âSixteen deceased persons is obviously a great tragedy for this state.
âOur thoughts, prayers and love go out to all of the families of the deceased.
âWe pray that those who are injured recover quickly.â
He added: âI have two police officers currently in hospital. At the moment, both are in a critical but stable condition, and again, the thoughts of the New South Wales Police are very much with those officers and their families.â
