Tarkwa (W/R), Nov. 19, GNA-Three illegal miners have died while using unauthorized routes to access a restricted area of Heath Goldfields Limited (HGL) in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality.
The incident involved a group of illegal miners who entered an inactive part of the Mine’s underground concession in Prestea and got trapped while working.
In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, management of the Mine said it was updating the public and industry stakeholders on the tragic incident.
They extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the Prestea community, adding “Every loss of life, regardless of circumstances, is painful and we stand with the affected families in grief and sympathy”.
The statement commended the Ghana Police Service, Minerals Commission and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) for their professionalism and swift response.
The company pledged to cooperate fully with the relevant authorities in the investigation and recovery efforts.
“As a responsible mining company, HGL, remains committed to the highest standards of safety and the protection of human life. We will continue to implement stringent security and safety protocols across all our concessions, ” it added.
The statement further assured stakeholders, including traditional leaders, community members, regulators, and partners of their continued dedication to responsible mining, community engagement, and the safeguarding of livelihood.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families who have lost loved ones. Our community relations team is engaging local leaders to provide support to affected families and keep the community informed”, the statement said.
