Techiman, (Bono East) Nov. 14, GNA- Nana Kwadwo Kwao, a popular farmer at Techiman in the Bono East region has called for support from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture towards developing an 838 acres farmland to create job opportunities for the youth.

He said the arable farmland was situated at Sarikyi, near Ejura in the Ashanti Region and therefore required the ministry’s support to develop it.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Techiman, Nana Kwao said the commercial farm project was designed to contain irrigation facilities for year-long farming.

Besides job opportunities, Nana Kwao said the project would further help advance the region’s food production and security, saying as the backbone of the economy, agriculture held the key to the nation’s progressive development.

“Agriculture is a reliable source for creating job opportunities for the youth to control the growing youth unemployment problem in the country and some of us are ready to help tackle the situation through modernized farming”, he stated.

He said the farm project would not only benefit the Ejura enclave, but also the Bono East and the nation, saying the project could also contribute to advancing the government 24hour economy programme and called for investor partnership as well.
