Police arrest woman for inciting violence in Garu

Bolgatanga, Nov. 6, GNA – The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested a woman allegedly to be behind a viral audio recording inciting residents of Garu in the Upper East Region to attack and kill soldiers deployed to maintain peace in the area. 

According to a police statement issued and signed by Chief Inspector Abdul-Rahman Sumaila, Public Relations Officer of the Upper East Regional Police Command, the suspect, identified as Lariba Alhassan, was heard in the recording urging residents to burn houses and attack dignitaries in the Garu district. 

The statement said the woman was picked up earlier in the day on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, and was currently in custody assisting with investigations.  

The statement said the suspect would be put before court after the necessary legal processes were completed. 

“The Upper East Regional Police Command remains committed to ensuring the peace and safety of all residents in Garu,” the statement assured. 

The statement reaffirmed the police’s readiness to deal decisively with anyone whose actions threaten the security and stability of the region.
