Tamale (N/R) Nov. 8, GNA – Dr. Charles Ohene-Amoah, Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council (NPC) of the Central Region, has appealed to the government and institutions for financial and logistical support to carry out peace campaigns and sensitization programmes.
Speaking in Tamale, Dr. Ohene-Amoah cited inadequate funding, insufficient office accommodations and logistical challenges as major obstacles to the council’s operations, limiting their visibility mainly to election periods.
He underscored the need for vehicles and funding sources for district and regional officers to effectively engage in peace assisting activities, amid rising extremism, violence and chieftaincy disputes.
Mr. Paul Akornor, the Oti Regional Director of the National Peace Council (NPC), and Mr. Kennedy Attepo, National Peace Council (NPC) Director of the Savannah Region, said despite the limited resources, efforts were underway to tackle the soaring extremism and violence related activities.
They, however, called on the government to provide additional resources to support their efforts to enable them work properly.
