Dakar, Nov 16, (dpa/GNA) – Militants from the Islamist group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), attacked a hospital in eastern Congo on Friday night, killing at least 20 people, according to police reports.
Local police officer John Nuwe told dpa that the rebels killed 18 patients, looted medicines and set fire to neighbouring houses in the town of Byambwe, which is located in the province of North Kivu.
Two people burned to death in their homes nearby, Nuwe said.
The ADF, which originated in neighbouring Uganda and is considered an offshoot of the Islamic State terrorist organization, has been active in Congo for almost 30 years.
The group repeatedly carries out deadly attacks targeting schools, churches and hospitals.
