San Jose, California, Nov 30, (dpa/GNA) – At least four people died and a further 10 were hit, in a mass shooting at a children’s birthday party, the sheriff’s office in San Joaquin in the US state of California reported late on Saturday.
Details of the shooting were unclear, with police calling for eyewitnesses to come forward.
“I am devastated and angry to learn about the mass shooting at a child’s birthday party. A birthday party should never be a place where families fear for their lives,” Jason Lee, the deputy mayor of Stockton, wrote on X.
According to media reports, police spokeswoman Heather Brent confirmed only that the shooting had taken place at a family gathering in a party hall. The victims included young people and adults, she said.
Initial indications were that the shooting could have been targeted, Brent said, according to the reports.
Broadcaster CBS reported that a suspect remained at large.
California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office, said he had been informed.
