Wamfie, (Bono), Oct. 24, GNA-The Wamfie District Magistrate Court in the Dormaa East District of the Bono Region has remanded three suspected illegal miners in Police custody.
The suspects, Moses Ayando 30 years, Joseph Akuwaaya 32 years and John Akanboei 34 years appeared before the court presided over by Mr Eugene Obeng Ntim for mining without license.
Another suspect, Kwaku Atingani, 16 years was however granted GHC50,000 bail with one surety.
They will re-appear in court on November 4, 2025.
A statement issued and signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, said the suspects were arrested on October 22, 2025, at Akontanim, near Wamfie, in the Dormaa East District.
It explained that an anti-galamsey taskforce set up by Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, arrested the suspects who were engaging in illegal mining during an operation.
The statement cautioned all persons engaging in illegal mining activities within the region to advise themselves or risk being arrested, investigated, and prosecuted.
