Awake water donates GHS150,000 to the National Cardiothoracic Centre

Accra, Oct. 1. GNA – Awake Drinking Water, a subsidiary of Kasapreko Company Limited, on Monday donated a cheque of GHS 150,000 to support the treatment of heart diseases at the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.  

The donation, which marked the observation of this year’s World Heart Day is expected to provide financial relief to patients who undergo an open-heart surgery   

Ms Linda Naomi Aidoo, Marketing Managing Director, Kasapreko, said the donation was part of a quarterly donation initiative of the company.  

She said the company’s quarterly donations has supported about 140 heart surgery procedures since its inception in 2016.  

Mr. Kow Entsua- Mensah, Director, National Cardiothoracic Centre, Korle-Bu, thanked Awake drinking water for their continuous support to the Centre.  

He advised the public to adopt healthy eating habits by filling their plates with more vegetables and less carbohydrates, sleep well at night, avoid refined sugars and processed foods.  

The Medical Director encouraged the public to exercise regularly at least 25 minutes a day and have regular health check-up to ensure the early detection of diseases.  

The World Heart Day, celebrated on September 29, every year seeks to create awareness on cardiovascular diseases such as heart failure.  

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says cardiovascular diseases account for about 34 percent of Non- Communicable Disease (NCD) related deaths.  

The 2025 celebration is under the theme: “Don’t miss a beat”.
