Accra, Oct. 15, GNA – A 13-Member Board of Trustees has been inaugurated for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), also known as MahamaCares, aimed at providing financial assistance to individuals living with chronic diseases across the country.
The Board is Chaired by Mr Anthony Ashitei Lithur, a private legal practitioner, with members including Madam Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Administrator of GMTF, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, Chief Executive Officer, National Health Insurance Authority, and Dr Belinda Afriyie Nimako, Representative, Ministry of Health.


The rest are Mr Patrick Nomo, Representative, Ministry of Finance, Mrs Nelly Bernice Wallace, Rep, Ministry of Social Welfare, Dr Mohammed Sherif Abdul-Khaliq (MP), Rep, Health Sector, and Dr Yaw Adu-Agyei Gyamfi, Rep, Pharmaceutical Industry.
The others are Prof. Alfred Doku, Health Professional (Chronic Disease Expert), Mrs Ann Pearl Akiwumi Siriboe, Legal Practitioner, and three presidential nominees; Dr Linda Narh, Cletus Seidu Dapilah, and Mr Godwin Ako Gunn.
The Fund seeks to cover the cost of care and medication for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) not currently included under the National Health Insurance Scheme, thereby complementing it by supporting critical aspects of these conditions.
Additionally, the Fund will invest in health infrastructure, medical equipment, specialist training, and research to enhance access to quality healthcare.


The inauguration of the Board reaffirms the Fund’s commitment to serving with compassion, integrity, and purpose, advancing healthcare equity and ensuring that no Ghanaian life was lost to a preventable or treatable condition.
