Acherensua, (Ahafo), Sept. 27, GNA – The re-rehabilitation and expansion work on the Acherensua-Ntotroso road project will commence soon, Dr Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asutifi North in the Ahafo Region has said.
He disclosed that the road project had been awarded on contract and that the contractor would move to site shortly.
He explained that the government with support from the Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (NGGL) was funding the project.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Acherensua in the Asutifi North District of the region, Dr Addo said: “funds are ready and we expect the contractors to be on site after a sod-cutting ceremony.”
Dr Addo said as a major and among the busiest roads in the region, the road project would be asphalted to meet standards, saying, on completion, it would open up the area for investments, and thereby spur rapid socio-economic growth and development.
In a related interview, Barima Twereku Ampem II, the Paramount Chief of the Ntotroso Traditional Area, said that particular stretch was very dear to the heart of the people, saying its deplorable condition had slowed down economic activities.
He said the present condition of the bridge on the road remained a death trap, and called on the government to expedite action for the construction works to commence, saying, it had been extremely difficult for drivers to use the road as the rains set in.
Barima Ampem II said the Ntotroso-Kenyasi road also needed to be expanded and asphalted and appealed to the Newmont Ahafo South Mine to take the responsibility and reshape the road for the people.
