Police arrest two over Omanjor Homowo violence   

Accra, Sept.1, GNA -The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects over their involvement in the Omanjor Chief’s Palace violence during the Homowo Festival on Saturday, August 30, 2025.  

A press release issued by Superintendent of Police, Ms Juliana Obeng, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday, said acting on intelligence, a team from the Accra Regional Police Command and Special Support Unit from the National  Headquarters arrested Christian Saka Ahianyevi, 35, a private security officer, on August 30, and Newton Alotey, 26, a dispatch rider, on August 31. 

They were arrested over their suspected roles in the violence that irrupted at the Chief’s Palace during the Homowo Festival, which claimed three lives and injured several others.  

“During the arrest, 18 spent BB cartridges were retrieved from Newton Alotey, while Christian Saka Ahianyevi was found in possession of a locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass and other exhibits,” the release said. 

Meanwhile, all exhibits had been retrieved, it noted.  

The suspects were in police custody, assisting with investigations, as police continued to maintain a strong security presence in the affected communities.   

“The Regional Police Command urges all factions and residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies,” it said. 

“Anyone with credible information on the whereabouts of the remaining suspects should contact the police emergency numbers 18555 or 191.”
