Golf City, Sept. 29, GNA – The Tema Regional Office of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has paid a visit to the Centre of the World Golf Club in Kpone-Katamanso municipality, as part of activities to commemorate the 2025 World Tourism Day.

World Tourism Day (WTD) is celebrated annually on September 27, with this year’s theme being ‘Tourism and Sustainable Transformation’.

Mr Isaac Asiam, the Tema Regional Manager of the Ghana Tourism Authority, who led the delegation, underscored the resolve of the GTA to boost tourism prospects within its operational areas, including the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality.

Mr Asiam explained that the Centre of the World Golf Club represented a unique tourism asset that ought to receive adequate attention and promotion, noting that it was the only place in the entire world where the Greenwich Meridian Line could be located on a golf course.

He said that this unique feature, if developed well, could draw many tourists from both Ghana and abroad, and emphasised the importance of working together with businesses, local government, and community leaders to make the place a top destination.

“The Centre of the World Golf Club is a remarkable treasure. It is not just about playing golf; it is about showcasing Ghana as the meeting point of the world. We must give this place the attention it deserves to strengthen our tourism industry and attract investment,” he stated.

He pledged the Authority’s commitment towards creating innovative strategies to market tourism sites within the Tema Region, ensuring they contributed meaningfully to job creation and economic development.

Mr Asiam further encouraged community members to support the protection and promotion of such tourist attractions, emphasising that sustainable tourism thrives when locals are directly involved.

The visit formed part of a broader agenda by the GTA to highlight hidden and under-promoted tourist attractions across the country in the buildup to World Tourism Day.

This year’s celebration was expected to draw stakeholders together to reflect on the role of tourism in fostering unity, cultural exchange, and sustainable development.
