Accra, Sept. 5, GNA – Mr Samuel George, the Minister of Communication and Digitalisation, has announced a reduction in the registration fee for single biker couriers from Ghc 1070 to Ghc 570.
The Minister also announced the reduction of the annual renewal fee from Ghc 600 to Ghc 250.
He said the government in November 2025 would pass the new fees and charges with the budget, with a special dispensation for single bikers.
The Minister announced this in Accra during a stakeholder meeting with courier operators to address issues of enforcement on their operations.
The operators are the Association of Licensed Courier Companies Ghana, Courier Association Ghana, Commercial National Motor Riders Union, Motorcycle Couriers Union and the Yango delivery service.
He said the government had placed a moratorium on any enforcement with the Police on the road for courier operators for the rest of 2025.
In line with the moratorium, the Minister had charged the Postal and Courier Regulatory Commission to put in place a system that allowed for a streamlined and easy means of registration, using a USSD shortcode and an app for all operators.
That, he explained, would address instances where courier operators frequently visit the offices of the Commission for registration.
He said the government would start enforcement on April 1, 2026, and that anybody found breaking the agreement would face the full rigours of the law.
“So it means that you have about seven months from now before the next enforcement operation will start.
“No one will have excuses at that time. I believe that we have shown responsiveness as a government to your concerns. If there are any other unions of riders outside of this meeting, the agreement here binds them,” he said.
The Minister stated that the measures were important to sanitise the courier system and ensure smooth operational work.
The courier services operators commended the government for the reduction and the moratorium to suspend enforcement till the end of 2025.
