Akrade (E/R), Sept 23, GNA – Major General (Maj Gen) Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), has urged the Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB), to put in their best efforts and win laurels for Ghana.
He tasked participants who would be representing the brigade in local and international competitions to demonstrate excellence in their commitment.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony held for the Army Special Operations Forces Basic Course 4-2025, Maj Gen Gbetanu said the ASOB which had
demonstrated its commitment to excellence over the years, was expected to participate in local and foreign courses and competitions in the United Kingdom and other countries.
The ceremony which was held at the Right to Dream Academy at Old Akrade in the Eastern Region, saw the graduation of 17 operators, comprising two officers and 15 soldiers, who have successfully completed an eight-month training programme.
In his address, Maj Gen Gbetanu expressed optimism about the elite military operations’ competence to support the Ghana Army in its fight against any threat of insurgency.
He said the rigorous training undertaken by the operators would not only develop exceptional skills, competencies, and expertise, but support the Ghana Army in various areas, including offensive operations, recognizance, search and rescue, counter-terrorism, swimming, survival, emergency and combat tactical medical.
Commending the ASOB for their commitment to excellence, Maj Gen Gbetanu reiterated the Ghana Armed Forces, and the government’s commitment to retooling the security agencies, including the Brigade with modern equipment and systems to enhance their operations.
He said the Brigade had enjoyed technical, training, and logistics support from international partners, including the United States, United Kingdom, Republic of Austria, Denmark, India, and Egypt, and applauded them for their support.
He also commended the training facilitators for the resilience and challenged them to maintain excellence in their operations.
Touching on their mandate, Brigadier General (Brig Gen), Richard Kainyi Mensah, the Commander of the ASOB said the Brigade which was instituted four years ago, aims at developing an elite, multi-purpose force for high-priority operational and strategic targets in the context of domestic counterterrorism.

He said the brigade was committed to achieving its milestones and attaining optimal operational capability to prevent, protect, and respond to crises, disasters, and emergencies in Ghana.
The event saw the presentation of Operators Badges and re-hating ceremony for the 17 operators who were recognised for their achievements.
