TWMA calls for development collaboration with companies

Tema, Aug. 01, GNA – The Tema West Municipal Assembly has called on companies and factories operating within the municipality to collaborate with the assembly to develop the area.

Mr. Ludwig Teye Totimeh, the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, who made the call when touring some companies in the municipality, said patterning one another would bring the needed development to the municipality.

Mr. Totimeh and some officials of the assembly toured Kasapreko Company Limited, Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, Wilma Africa Limited, Dangote Cement, and Coco Cola among others.

He said the aim was to familiarise himself with the operation of the companies and factories within the municipality and create a partnership with them on how best they could collaborate to achieve a common goal.

Mr. Totimeh said: “We have also called on the companies to come on board to help with little resources to help provide the roads, especially to their factories; they use the heavy vehicles and trucks, which put a lot of toll on them.”

He said even though some of the companies said they have already put a facelift on their roads, they still needed to come on board to get good roads and other development, of which they would be the first beneficiaries.

According to him, instead of waiting and going to collect rates and bills from the companies, it was important that they form partnerships with them to be able to get to each other for their mutual benefits.

“When we went round, they were elated and shared a lot of issues with us. This is to foster growth and let the companies and factories know that we are there to serve them and not just there to be getting revenue from them. They should feel happy and easy paying property rates and fees to the assembly, as that is what we use to develop the municipality,” he said.

The MCE stated that companies operating in the municipality must not see their relationship with the assembly as that of ‘a big brother’ overseeing their operations to take revenue from them but rather as partners working together for the betterment of Tema West, stressing that there should not be a disconnect between the two.

Touching on security concerns raised by the companies, he indicated that the TWMA has plans to provide a lighting system, especially in the secluded area, as it was a known fact that criminal activities thrive in darkness.

The management of Kasapreko expressed appreciation to the partnership initiative, giving the assurance that communication between the company and the assembly would continue even after the tour.
