Accra, Aug. 18, GNA- The Anti Armed Robbery Response Unit (AARU) of the Ghana Police Service has foiled attempted robbery at a bank in the Central Region.

This was after the robbers attempted to break into MRB Bank vault at Winneba on August 15, 2025.

Sources to the Police say the operation by the said robbers triggered the bank’s alarm which drew the attention of the Police Patrol Team.

“On reaching the location, they (police) were met with sporadic guns from the robbers. After a brief exchange of fire by the gang bolted from the scene leaving behind one pump action, empty cartridge and other implements for the robbery, the source said.

Police investigations revealed that the attempted bank robbery was carried out by about five armed men who attempted to break into the bank’s vault but had their operation foiled following swift intervention by the police.

Police say further investigations suggested that the robbers’ modus operandi was like that of a gang in an earlier rural bank robberies reported earlier.

“Intelligence shows that the robbers may be hiding at Kumasi and a team of surveillance men at AARU are trying to trace their places of abode,” the source said.
