Sunyani, (Bono), Aug. 1, GNA – The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) in the Bono Region received 752 complaints from power consumers between January and June 2025, Ms. Julia Antwi, the Bono Regional Public Relations Officer of the commission has said.
She said the commission was able to resolve 724 of the complaints against the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), adding that 46 of the complaints against the Ghana Water Limited were also resolved.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Ms Antwi added that the commission received only two complaints from the utility service providers against consumers, saying consumers’ billing adjustments amounted to GHC43,282.72.
She said with the intervention of the commission, NEDCo replaced six transformers and 95 electricity poles to stabilize power supply in some of the communities in the region.
Ms. Antwi explained that the Commission in collaboration with the various Municipal and District Assemblies was embarking on an exercise to address challenges in the utility provision sector to enhance quality service delivery.
She said the exercise dubbed “PURC at Your District” was in line with the office’s quarterly outreach activities aimed at identifying and tackling peculiar challenges confronting utility consumers.
Ms Antwi said the commission so far extended the exercise to Sunyani East and West, Berekum East and Dormaa Central Municipalities as well as Dormaa East District, saying most of the issues had to do with meter problems, low voltages, and irregular water supply.
