Western Region GPRTU calls for relocation of unauthorised transport terminal around Takoradi Jubilee Park

By Emmanuel Gamson

Takoradi, July 9, GNA – The Western Regional Secretariat of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has called on the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) to relocate drivers running unauthorised lorry station around the Takoradi Jubilee Park area.

Mr Simmons Cudjoe, Western Regional GPRTU Chairman, stated that the activities of these illegal transport operators were causing severe traffic congestion around that area, and negatively impacting the work of the Union members.

He explained that passengers were being diverted from officially designated terminals to these illegal stations, undermining their operations.

He said: “That place is not even safe because it is very close to the airport where flights usually lower down to land, so that area is not fit for operating a transport terminal.”

Mr Cudjoe continued: “Our members are law abiding, and we want the Assembly to do what is best for all of us by relocating those operating there to the Apremdo Market to avoid further agitation from the union.”
