Accra July 8, GNA- In a collaborative effort to boost Ghana’s environmental restoration, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Volunteers (UNV), in partnership with KPMG, planted approximately 400 seedlings at the Chipa Forest Reserve, Agomeda.
The exercise is part of the government’s 2025 “Tree for Life” initiative, aimed at enhancing biodiversity and sustainable development.
The tree-planting activity followed a public webinar organized by the partners to raise awareness about biodiversity conservation.
According to Dr. Abdul-Razak Saeed, Head of the Environment and Climate Cluster at UNDP Ghana, the initiative demonstrates a commitment to turning advocacy into action.
“After raising awareness, we moved to the field to plant trees, showing our collective support for Ghana’s restoration goals,” Dr. Abdul-Razak Saeed stated. The team also replanted seedlings from last year’s exercise that did not survive, ensuring long-term impact.
Mr. Osei Asenso-Antwi, Senior Manager at KPMG Ghana, emphasized that the initiative aligned with their sustainability agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. “Partnering with UNDP allows us to amplify our efforts in greening the environment,” he added.
“This initiative builds on our efforts from last year, and it’s inspiring to see the seedlings thriving. At UNV, we’re committed to returning each year to ensure the trees we plant survive—this is our small but meaningful contribution to the Tree for Life initiative,” said Francis Ofosu, Partnership and Mobilisation Officer for the UN Volunteers Programme in Ghana.
The exercise highlights Ghana’s dedication to climate action, with UNDP, UNV, and KPMG playing a key role in driving reforestation efforts.
