Sunyani, (Bono), July 28, GNA – Residents of the Sunyani Zongo community have appealed to feuding factions in the protracted Bawku chieftaincy crisis to end hostilities in the interest of innocent women, children, and national development.
The Bawku conflict, one of the country’s longstanding ethnic flashpoints, continues to claim lives and disrupt livelihoods, especially affecting vulnerable groups.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, residents pleaded with the Mamprusi and Kusaasi factions to embrace dialogue and reconciliation.
Madam Janat Fidaus, a Bawku native and petty trader, said the ongoing crisis had left emotional scars. “Just thinking about our relatives in Bawku gives me sleepless nights. We beg our chiefs to settle their differences,” she said.
Mr Abdulai Mumuni, another resident, urged the government to intensify efforts to address the root causes of the conflict, warning that without long-term solutions, peace efforts would remain ineffective.
Madam Abiba Salamatu, a porridge (“koko”) seller and Bawku native, condemned the violence as senseless. She called for an increased security presence in Bawku and stricter action against troublemakers.
She also appealed to law enforcement to uphold the rights of women and children in the conflict zone.
