October 3 confirmed as Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ sentencing date

New York, Juky 10, (dpa/GNA) – A judge in New York has confirmed that rapper, Sean “Diddy” Combs, would be sentenced on October 3, US media reported on Tuesday.

Last Wednesday, a federal jury in New York found Combs guilty on two prostitution-related charges, after more than 13 hours of deliberations.

The 12 jurors, eight men and four women, acquitted Combs of the more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges.

After the verdict was announced, Judge Arun Subramanian had proposed October 3 for the rapper’s sentencing. US media outlets including CNN reported on Tuesday that Combs’ lawyers had initially wanted to move the date up, but later dropped their push to expedite proceedings.

Combs, 55, faces up to 10 years in prison for each count, but not life imprisonment, which he would have faced had he been found guilty on all counts. It is expected that the rapper will serve a much shorter sentence, according to US media.

The federal case was brought by the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, considered one of the nation’s top federal prosecutorial offices. Lawyers there had accused the hip-hop artist of abusing, threatening and coercing women into satisfying his sexual desires over a period of several years.

During the trial, which lasted several weeks, several women reported years of serious sexual and physical abuse.
