Accra, July 19, GNA – MODEC Production Services has donated a Handler II workboat to the Regional Maritime University (RMU) to support marine-focused teaching and learning programmes.

The handing-over ceremony at the RMU campus was led by Mr Theophilus Ahwireng, Managing Director of MODEC, alongside company representatives.

Dr Jethro W. Brooks Jr., Acting Vice-Chancellor of RMU, accepted the vessel on behalf of the university in the presence of management, staff, and students.

The event featured a guided tour of the workboat to familiarise attendees with its features.

Dr Brooks Jr. expressed appreciation for MODEC’s support and acknowledged the donation’s impact, saying, “The workboat is more than just a vessel; it will serve as a floating classroom.”

He added that it would be vital for developing key maritime skills such as anchoring, line handling, navigation, vessel manoeuvring and emergency response.

Mr Ahwireng stated that the gift represented MODEC’s continued partnership with RMU.

He recalled earlier contributions, including support in establishing a welding centre to train technicians to industry standards and improving certification protocols.

“Last year, MODEC helped RMU elevate its certification standards, empowering university lecturers to independently certify welders,” he said.
