Gunu calls for national reflection and Unity

Ho (V/R), July 03, GNA – Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has urged Ghanaians to take time to reflect on their identity as a people, renew their collective hope, and commit to building a prosperous nation rooted in unity, purpose, and integrity.

He gave the advice during the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving event at Ho in the Volta Region and emphasised the need to go beyond prayer, to take deliberate steps toward national transformation.

“As a nation, we have every reason to reflect, to reset, and to renew ourselves for a better future,” he said.

He stated that as the nation reflected on the grace that had carried it through trials and triumphs, citizens must also remember the sacrifices of generations past and the peace currently being enjoyed, counting them as a blessing that could not be taken for granted.

The Minister outlined a three-point development agenda for the Volta Region:, Promoting Peace and Security – As a foundation for attracting investment, creating jobs, and fostering development, Strengthening Local Governance – Building the capacity of Municipal and District Assemblies to deliver faster, closer, and more responsive public services, Supporting National Vision – Collaborating with all stakeholders to implement the transformative and inclusive agenda of President Mahama, rooted in equity and opportunity for all.

He said this was the rationale behind merging the Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs into one ministry, reflecting the belief that governance must be local, tradition respected, and ensure that morality was not left behind.

“Development must rise from the ground, guided by wisdom, culture, and faith,” he said, addressing traditional rulers and religious leaders as the “moral compass” of society.

He thanked them for their continuous prayers, guidance, and grassroots leadership, and encouraged citizens, especially the youth, to remain hopeful and proactive.

He gave an assurance that the government was working hard to create an environment where their dreams could thrive.

Rev. Emmanuel Elisha Attu, the Director of Programmes for Ecumenical and Social Relations of the E.P. Church, echoed the importance of reflection, renewal, and national unity.

He said the time had come to let go of bitterness and division, and instead embrace unity, purpose, and integrity.

He said renewal meant building stronger communities, investing in the youth, embracing innovation, and doing all things with love, honesty, and excellence.

Rev. Seth Mawutor, the Chairman of the Volta Regional Peace Council, also highlighted the significance of the occasion as part of President Mahama’s 2024 campaign promise and thank the Lord for seeing Ghana through last year’s general elections and for His sustained grace since then.
