Nyakrom (C/R), July 16, GNA – The Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council has unanimously disowned one Opanyin Kwesi Gyan, aka. Frank Asiedu, purporting to be the Chief of Agona Abodom.
Opanyin Gyan, who allegedly claimed to be the Abodom Chief with the name Nana Osam Dadzie Obrempong XI, was said to have been installed without the prior approval of the Omanhene, Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku X as per the customs and traditions of the people.
The Omanhene, who supervises and controls customs and traditions of the area, said he must ensure that peace prevailed, hence the action.
He has therefore imposed a ban on the 2025 Akwambo festival celebration of the Chiefs and people of the town scheduled to come off in August this year, to avert a possible clash and bloodshed.
Addressing a press conference at Agona Nyakrom to register their displeasure, Nana Kojo Amoakwa V, the Krontihene of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, who addressed the media on behalf of the Omanhene, said Opanyin Gyan must not hold himself as the traditional ruler in the area.
Nana Amaoakwa who is also the chief of Agona Duakwa said “the Traditional Council wishes to inform all and sundry that Opanyin Gyan is not a chief and has never been a chief and wishes to categorically state that he is an imposter”.
The spokesperson of the Omanhene, explained that on June 28,2025, the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council heard reports of a purported enstoolment at Abodom involving the same, Opanyin Kwesi Gyan who was carried in a palanquin purporting to be the chief of Abodom.
Nana Amoakwa said earlier, a letter was received by the Omanhene from the heads of the Asona Family of Agona Abodom including Ebusuapanyin Kwesi Prah, Ebusuapanyin Yaw Otoo and many others declaring their intention to disassociate themselves from the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area.
He said the Traditional Council would advise itself on the appropriate steps to take in that regard, adding that any chief found to be an accomplice, would be dealt with accordingly.
“We therefore urge all government and private institutions not to deal with the imposter claiming to be the chief of Agona Abodom, and their failure to adhere will at their own risk,” Nana Amoakwa added.
He said no person had been installed chief of Agona Abodom, and that the Traditional Council would communicate the decision by its Judicial Committee to ensure the proper installation of a qualified candidate as the chief for Agona Abodom.
Nana Amoakwa said the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council presided over by Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku, the Divisional Chiefs, Queen mothers, King makers and heads of families, would not regard anyone who had disrespected the laws, customs and traditions and proclaimed himself as chief, setting stinking precedence and tainting the beautiful image of the Chieftaincy institution.
Present at the press conference included Nana Dr Ampem Darko V, the Kyidomhene of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, and Kweku Esieni V, the Regent of Agona Swedru.
