Accra Fertility Centre launches IVF campaign

Accra, July 14, GNA – Accra Fertility Center (AFC), a subsidiary of Medifem Multi-Specialist Hospital, has launched a campaign to raise awareness on infertility and demystify In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).

The month-long initiative coincides with World IVF Day, observed annually on July 25 to commemorate the birth of Louise Brown, the first baby born through IVF in 1978.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, Dr Joseph Homiah, Chief Fertility Specialist at AFC, said fertility treatments, particularly IVF, had become more accessible and affordable in recent years.

However, financial constraints, limited information, and lack of emotional support remained barriers.

“Since the birth of the first IVF baby in 1978, over 10 million children have been born through IVF, proving that science and compassion together can create miracles.

“The process has brought unimaginable joy to families who otherwise may never have experienced parenthood.

“It is our mission to ensure that more people in Ghana and across the region have the opportunity to explore their fertility options in a supportive environment,” he said.

Mrs. Sena Adjasi, Business Development Manager at AFC, encouraged individuals and couples facing fertility challenges to participate in the campaign.

She said the initiative would highlight the science behind IVF, foster dialogue on infertility and stigma, and support emotional well-being.

“We warmly invite all individuals and couples who have questions or concerns about their fertility to visit us. You are not alone in this journey; there is support, there is help, and above all, there is hope,” she said.
