Techiman North MCE cautions residents against littering, plastic pollution

Tuobodom, (Bono East) June, 6, GNA- Mr Johnson Adom, the Techiman North Municipal Chief Executive in the Bono East region, has cautioned the people against indiscriminate dumping and littering of plastic waste and materials. 
 
He said plastic pollution was detrimental to the environment and a major threat to human development. 
 
Describing plastic pollution as an emerging pressing challenge in the nation, Mr Adom called for proactive measures to tackle the menace and safeguard the environment. 
 
He was speaking at a forum for the launch of the National Sanitation Day (NSD) at Tuobodom, the district capital, saying plastic waste continued to choke water bodies, gutters and destroy the ecosystem, rural landscapes, harming wildlife and threatening human health. 
 
Mr Adom urged the people to practice good waste management and disposal, calling for the nation to do more for the reuse or recycling of plastic waste and materials. 
 
He said President John Dramani Mahama had reintroduced the NSD to put the nation on the edge to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals ((SDGs) of clean water and sanitation, saying the Assembly would conduct monthly clean-up exercises to help achieve the vision of the government. 
 
Mr Mohammed Manu Busi, the Techiman North District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), lauded the NSD which would help promote environmental sustainability. 
 
He advised school children and teachers to be environmentally friendly and avoid littering around.
