Nkrankrom women appeal for toilet

Nkrankrom, (Bono), June 20, GNA – Women at Nkrankrom, a farming community in the Sunyani Municipality, have appealed for toilet facilities to stem open defecation in the town.

They expressed worry that the only communal toilet, constructed decades ago, was now in a deplorable condition, and called on individuals, non-government organisations (NGOs), corporate bodies and philanthropic organisations to come to their aid.

During a visit, the women residents told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the old toilet was a wooden structure, situated some distance away, making it dangerous for women and children to use it at night.

“Because of that some of the women and children have to use black polythene bags when they want to attend to nature’s call at night,” a resident, Madam Faustina Akankoh, stated.

She also called for support towards the completion of an ICT center project being put up by the people in the community.

Another resident, Mavis Yeboah, said the community required modern toilet facilities to tackle the poor sanitation situation in the town, worrying that some of the people attended the nature call at nearby bushes.
