Busunya (Bono East), June 5, GNA – Mr Patrick Effah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkoranza North in the Bono East Region, has reiterated the assembly’s commitment to enhance the socio-economic wellbeing of persons with disabilities (PwDs) in the district.

He gave assurance that the assembly would facilitate the timely release and disbursement of the PwDs’ share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to enable them to sustain and expand their economic activities.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Effah disclosed that the Assembly had already engaged with the PwD community to identify and address their most pressing needs.

He emphasised that the government had prioritised the welfare of PwDs, and the Assembly remained equally committed, saying, “We will integrate the concerns of PwDs into our development plans and ensure they are addressed accordingly,” he said.

Mr Effah also urged beneficiaries to utilise the DACF disbursements solely for their intended purposes.

He announced plans by the assembly to develop a designated piece of land for an apprenticeship centre for PwDs.

“The centre will offer employable skills training and job opportunities to support the livelihoods of PwDs,” he stated, encouraging them to also register with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) for further employment support.

In a separate interview, Mr James Kwadwo Owusu, District Chairman of the Federation of Physically Challenged, appealed to the Assembly to expedite the development of the proposed training centre.

He also highlighted challenges related to delays in DACF disbursements and called on the DCE to support the procurement of assistive devices such as spectacles, white canes for the visually impaired, crutches, and wheelchairs.
