Accra, June 19, GNA- Nobel International Business School (NiBS) University has launched a $108,000 scholarship programme in the name of the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin to support the capacity development of Members of Parliament and Parliamentary Service Staff.
The scholarship, according to the Founder and President of the institution, Professor Kwaku Atuahene-Gima, aims to enhance the skills of 20 beneficiaries for essential and effective parliamentary work to uphold democracy and self development.
“However, applicants should have their forms endorsed by the speaker,” he advised.
The key aspects of the Scholarship include capacity building to enhance skills and knowledge of Members of Parliament (MPs) and Parliamentary Service Staff; a partnership collaboration between Parliament and the university to promote knowledge sharing and capacity development; peer review to promote peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing among MPs and staff.
According to Mr Atuahene-Gima, the significance of the partnership between Parliament and the University could serve as a model for other institutions, promoting capacity development and democracy.
“The university’s effort is a critical intervention that can bring significant benefits to the country,” he said.
In his remarks, Mr Bagbin said: “We are extremely grateful and honoured by your presence and your offer. Your commitment to promoting democracy and fraternity is appreciated, and we look forward to exploring ways to deepen this partnership.”
Dr Gloria Sarku Kumawu, a Deputy Clerk for Information Management Services, Parliament, and an alumnae of NiBS University shared her personal experience of pursuing a PhD while balancing multiple responsibilities as a woman, mother, wife, and career person.
She encouraged others, especially women, to take advantage of the University’s accredited programmes and resources to enhance their skills and knowledge.
“For capacity development, I urge my fellow women to enhance their skills and knowledge through the academic programmes of the university to empower themselves and develop their skills.
“The school’s practical research focuses on real-world issues and stakeholders to make a positive impact,” she added.
Dr Kumawu emphasized that the university’s research was not just theoretical but also practical, focusing on real-world issues and stakeholders.
A citation and plaque was presented to the Speaker of Parliament by NiBS University.
