MTN honours Nana Kwesi Gyan-Apenteng with health walk

Accra, June 19, GNA – MTN Ghana, together with its Media Republics joined hands in a commemorative health walk to honour the late Nana Kwesi Gyan-Apenteng, board chair of the Ghana News Agency.

The three-hour walk, a tribute to the media guru, started from the MTN House, through to the Accra Sports Stadium and Ako Adjei Interchange turned back to the starting point.

Mrs Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, MTN Ghana’s Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, said Nana Apenteng would be remembered for his impact as a member of the Media Republic.

“Nana Kwesi Gyan-Apenteng was with us the last time we met in December. He is always with us unless he’s not in the country. He’ll be remembered for his commitment and his love for journalism.

He was always there to coach us, teach us and share ideas.” She said the former National Media Commission chair was a mentor, coach, tireless advocate for ethics, and media trainer to many practicing journalists both in Ghana and across the globe. “Nana was always there for us.

We all tapped into his experience as a top media practitioner.

He advised us on all matters related to life and he was a good friend to all. May he Rest in Peace,” Madam Afua Serwaa Asafo Adjei, Communication Advisor-Media Relations, MTN Ghana.

She described the health walk as a platform to bring both journalists and the MTN staff together to stay fit while promoting a healthy living.

Madam Naa Dzagbley Ago Quaye, President of MTN Media Republic urged journalists to read books written by the late NMC Chairman to set high standards for themselves.

Nana Gyan-Apenteng’s over 45 years career from grassroots reporting to regulatory leadership, influenced Ghanaian and Pan-African media culture. He navigated challenges like censorship and editorial pressure with integrity, focused on mentorship, and used his writing and teaching to influence future generations of journalists.

He served as Chair of the National Media Commission, Board Chair of the Ghana News Agency and President of the Ghana Writers Association.

Nana Apenteng, 74, died on May 26, 2025 in London.
