Minority to cooperate in Supreme Court nominees’ vetting process – Patrick Boamah

Accra, June 16, GNA- The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Parliament, says it will participate in the ongoing vetting of seven nominees to the Supreme Court bench, dispelling concerns of a potential boycott.  

According to Mr Patrick Yaw Boamah, NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei Central, the Minority is committed to cooperating with the Majority throughout the vetting process. 

“We are going to cooperate, we have always been a cooperative minority,” Mr Boamah stated. 

Addressing the media in Parliament on Monday, Mr Boamah who is a member of the Appointment’s Committee of Parliament said: “We have always raised issues where necessary, and we have always boycotted where necessary, all within the ambit of parliamentary practice.” 

The seven nominees, nominated by President John Dramani Mahama in April, are: Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Justice Senyo Dzamefe and Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo. 

The others are Justice Philip Bright Mensah; Justice Janapare  Bartels-Kodwo; and Justice Hafisata Amaleboba. 

The nominations were made in accordance with Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the process for appointing Supreme Court Justices.  

The vetting process is expected to scrutinize the nominees’ qualifications, experience, and suitability for the esteemed positions.
