Wa (UW/R), May 14, GNA – Mrs Mary Wondoh, the Principal of the Prevailers Technical/Vocational Institute has expressed worry over the myriads of challenges hindering the institution’s growth and enrollment.
She emphasized the need for strategic solutions and stakeholder involvement to help solve the problems in the Institute to improve academic work.
She mentioned inadequate infrastructure, high cost of accreditation, high rate of taxes on the school and indiscipline were some of the challenges facing the institute.
She was speaking during the PTA meeting of the school in Wa.
Mrs Wondoh said if some of the problems were addressed it would ensure the institution’s success and could also increase students’ enrollment to achieve institutional growth.
In an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA), the principal emphasized that the school’s infrastructure needed massive improvement, with a need for more resources to maintain its facilities.
“We have completed the boys’ dormitory despite the limited resources, but now we urgently need resources to build a new dormitory for our girls to accommodate the growing student enrollment”, she said.
Touching on indiscipline, the principal said the PTAs played a crucial role in instilling discipline and supporting the general welfare of students.
She urged the PTAs to collaborate in supporting the school to instill discipline to protect Prevailers Technical/Vocational Institute to maintain its value.
” I urge that all staff and members of the PTA to see this school as their own and protect it by maintaining its value, we shall prevail”, she added.
She expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the board members, staff and PTAs for their continued support to the school.
The principal appealed to philanthropists, non-governmental organizations, benevolent, government, corporate bodies and individuals to help solve some of the challenges facing the school.
Dr. Lawrence Naaikuur, chairman of PTA said the concerns raised from the school about indiscipline and welfare of the students was prudent and needed serious attention from stakeholders.
He encouraged parents to demonstrate commitment and support for the school in guiding their children to reinforce discipline amongst the students.
Meanwhile, the event was showcased with modeling and exhibition from all departments for parents to see the handy work of their children.
At the exhibition, GNA saw the Fashion department, Catering department, Electrical department and Building department displaying their practical knowledge to their parents.
