Akosombo (ER), May 26, GNA- The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has slated Monday, May 26 to Tuesday, May 27 to train selected journalists and media practitioners working in the Volta and Eastern Regions on Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) and Progressive Taxation.

The workshop formed part of interventions by MFWA to enhance knowledge, raise awareness and equip journalists with the relevant knowledge and skills needed to effectively report on the impact of Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs).

The training, according to a statement signed by Sulemana Braimah, the Executive Director of MFWA, was part of MFWA’s project titled: “Tax for Development: Strengthening Civil Society and Media for Fiscal Justice” that was funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) through OXFAM in Ghana.

“Participants during the training would have enhanced capacities to more effectively track and monitor the impact of government policies and responses to reducing illicit financial flows, and how to investigate and report on IFFs in Ghana effectively.”

Other topics to be discussed include progressive taxation policies and administration, and its impact on Ghana domestic revenue mobilisation.

Journalists from print, online, broadcast media and others have been invited to the two-day training at Afrikiko Riverfront Resort, Akosombo.

Illicit financial flows generally involve money laundering, bribery by international companies and tax evasion, trade misinvoicing and mispricing among others.
