Tema, May 02, GNA – The Annor We Royal Family of Prampram and some concerned youth have called on the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Ghana Police Service to avert violence over an alleged installation of a stool-father for the area.
Numo Samuel K. Abbey, the Principal Elder of Annor We, made the call after the elders and the youth protested against the said attempted installation in Prampram in the Greater Accra Region.
At a press conference on Thursday, the group clad in red armbands and attire strongly opposed the move, arguing that the community already has a legitimate and long-serving stool father, Numo Osabu Abbey IV.
Naa Larbiedede Abbey, the spokesperson for the group, described the development as “provocative and dangerous”, stressing that any attempt to enstool a new stool-father would be resisted.
She noted that Numo Osabu Abbey IV had served in the role for decades without dispute, adding that “We are alarmed that Nene Tetteh Wakah’s tenure as chief has been riddled with violence, lawlessness, and bloodshed, yet the security agencies have turned a blind eye.”
She called on the IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno to ensure that his tenure brought a decisive end to such corrupt and dangerous conduct, which she noted cast a dark shadow over Prampram and forced the indigenes to live in fear.
Meanwhile, responding to the issue, Nene Tetteh Wakah III, the Paramount Chief of Prampram, denied reports of the enstoolment of a new stool-father.
He clarified that the individual in question was only being introduced as an apprentice to support the gazetted stool-father, who is advanced in age and reportedly unable to carry out his duties effectively.
“The person being introduced is not replacing anyone. He is to assist the current stool father due to his limited mobility,” Nene Wakah stated.
Meanwhile, security has been intensified in the town as Prampram prepares to celebrate its annual Kplejoo Festival amid the brewing chieftaincy dispute.
