Big Ada, May 20, GNA - The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged members of various churches in the Ada East District on the importance of childhood vaccination and weighing as part of the African Vaccination and Child Health Promotion Week.

Officials of the NCCE visited and engaged members of the Divine Healers’ Church, Church of Pentecost, and The Living Church at Asigbekorpe, as well as the Methodist Church at Azizanya, Church of Pentecost at Ada Foah-Lolonyakorpe, and Believers Gospel Ministry, Divine Healers, and Potters Recreation Chapel, all at Big Ada.

Madam Faustina Blewusi, also known as Mama Megbenya II, Ada East District Director of the NCCE, encouraged parents, guardians, and caregivers to make the health of their children paramount, indicating that quality health care was part of the fundamental rights of the child.

Madam Blewusi said the survival, development, and protection of the child must be of keen interest to parents and caregivers, emphasising that the survival right includes the health of the child.

She indicated that the child had the right to good health, including nutrition, clothing, and shelter, which must be provided by the parent to help them reach the various required developmental stages, including schooling, learning a trade, and pursuing any other careers.

She added that prayers alone could not protect the child from sicknesses and give them the future they deserve, stressing that prayer is good, but equally important is to ensure good and proper healthcare for the child.

Madam Blewusi encouraged parents to participate in the vaccination and weighing exercise to safeguard their children’s future, emphasising that “If your child is healthy, you have a peaceful mind to do your daily activities.”

She reiterated the dangers of self-medication for children, stating that it was dangerous for the health and general well-being of the child.

Some of the parents who spoke with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) expressed satisfaction about the engagement, disclosing that they have been enlightened on the importance of vaccination, weighing, and quality health care for the child.

A few of the members disclosed that they consistently ensure the healthy lifestyle of their children.
